Never On My Own

For our past two anniversaries, Jon has written blogs that made me feel so special and honored to be his partner through all life has brought us. It amazed me how he felt about me as a mom and about our relationship. I wanted to return the gift and let him know what he has brought to this family.

To say that Jon is a great dad is hardly enough. He left for work this morning once again "on fumes". Late nights are a normal part of his life. He has stayed up on so many occasions working on a blog, a video, anything to help Livy. After the short couple of hours he has with the girls when he comes home from work, he works again tirelessly on whatever it may be at the time that would help to get the word out about Livy's Hope, to share Livy's story and to inspire others.

Jon rarely ever complains and truly is energized by making a difference. Even after having worked on something for hours, he still will cuddle up with our little "night owl" to help her fall asleep, a lot of the time around 2am. He never tires when it comes to our girls. I see how much of himself that he gives to them and then even after all that, he saves time for me. I think I truly married the best listener in the world and that sure comes in handy with all I have to say at the end of the day!

Looking back over the years I am thinking about all the times he pulled through for our family and kept us stong. The promises he has made to each of us including the special ones he has made to Livy, to never leave her alone in the hospital and to stretch her and work out with her nearly every day. And most importantly, the commitment he has made to me to stay through to the end.

Through it all, we have held tight to our marriage. This life of parents of special needs children can be a tricky one and it really takes two a lot of the time...most of the time. I know how lucky I am and I think the girls do too.

Monday is Jon's birthday and I hope to make it a special one. I'll start off by letting him sleep in.

You are both angels put on earth. How you do what you do with such grace is an incredible gift and life lesson to the rest of us. You are a perfectly matched couple and I wish you continued love for each other and your family.
Love,
Deborah
