Life Is Sweet

Life Is Sweet

Strawberry buttercream, chocolate filled chocolate cake topped with a chocolate butterfly. Life is certainly sweet when filled with such a scrumptious dessert. That was all it took to bring hundreds of people out to support Livy's Hope. The fundraiser at The Cake Bar in Franklin, MA a couple of weeks ago was remarkable. Our friend Tracie and her staff worked tirelessly to keep the cases full of mouthwatering cupcakes. In the end, 2,417 cupcakes were sold! The money raised will help to further our mission of supporting children with medical needs and their families.

I am still amazed by what people can accomplish when they come together in support of a common goal. The feeling of doing something good for others is both contagious and addictive. A small act of kindness is all it takes to change someone's life.

Shortly after the weekend, we received a donation from a woman in Newtown, CT who had heard of Livy's Hope through a friend. After everything the town has been through and all they lost, they are trying harder than ever to give back to others. We are reminded by the events in Newtown that life is precious and fragile and in an instant, everything we hold dear can be taken.

How amazing would it be if we could all do one nice thing for another person each and every day? A compliment, a flower or a thoughtful note is all it takes. For the first time, I paid the toll for the person behind me at a toll booth. It cost less than a dollar but it felt really good. In each of us lives the ability to make a difference. Start out small but I bet once you see the impact you can make, you won't be able to stop.

My hope is that the people of Franklin will not stop. They have shown how a sweet, tasty treat can be so much more. Over the next few weeks, we will show them how what they have done can change a life. We have witnessed the effects of helping others and we never intend on stopping.
