Adjusting Once Again
We returned home from the hospital last Friday. Livy was pretty stable regarding seizures and the doctor thought it best she get away from all the lovely hospital germs. She has being doing relatively well. We are back to the fun adjusting medication game now that she came home on two additional seizure meds. We keep telling ourselves this is only temporary. For those of you that have gone through this, it is one of the most frustrating things, going up on meds, weaning down meds, and then going up again. Trying to find the perfect balance of not too much and not too little. These meds all have so many side effects and require other meds to control them. We've become quite the pharmaceutical experts over here.
Livy has been home from school and we have decided to keep her home until her cast comes off the week after Thanksgiving. She is also scheduled to have her Supprelin implant replaced the week of Thanksgiving. For those of you not familiar with the implant, here is a link to some information: Supprelin Implant
I just read a great article from a mom about being a stay-at-home mom, not by choice, but because her child has special needs and required full time care. She said her son was a stay-at-home child. It was such a great way to look at it. Just like her, my plans in life changed the day Livy came home all those years ago. And even though Livy is a student, she still has times when she cannot attend and sometimes those times can last quite a while. So once again, we are adjusting to this "new" schedule of being at home. And that's ok. I am lucky I can do it.
With all the time to think while being in the hospital, Jon and I were hard at work coming up with ways to help out the parents that sit bedside hour after hour, day after day with their kids. It is not an easy job and it can be incredibly tiring and lonely. We believe Livy's Hope can help in some way and in the near future we are going be sharing some ideas with you. If only just a small gesture or little uplifting gift, we know there is a need and we want to help.
And one last very cool thing, Hailey was nominated for the Rising Star Award for the Be More Awards™ here at WEDU – the Tampa Bay area’s leading PBS station and public media company. She is being recognized for her fundraising efforts for Livy. If you believe Hailey is a Rising Star, please take a moment and vote for her at the following link. You will need to click on the "Rising Star" category, scroll down and vote. You can vote every day from now until December 2nd. We are so excited and proud of her and what she does for her sister.
