Making A Stand Against Epilepsy

Anything is possible when we work together

Lemonade for Livy is a national initiative managed by the Epilepsy Foundation. Our family is thrilled to work closely with the Foundation so together, we can strengthen the campaign and enable it to have a bigger impact. To find out more and to register your stand, party, or event, please visit epilepsy.com/lemonadeforlivy.

The purpose of Lemonade for Livy is to create epilepsy awareness and raise funding for the Epilepsy Foundation. The initiative takes place throughout the year with a bigger focus on the summer months. It is an effort that brings people together to build epilepsy awareness, provide resources to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy, and to fund new treatments. If we work as one and if we speak with a collective voice, we can make significant progress toward finding the answers that will ultimately lead to a cure.

The mission of the Epilepsy Foundation is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. We are committed to helping the Foundation achieve their mission and to giving hope to those living with epilepsy.

Inspiring Action

Olivia Scheinman (Livy) is the inspiration and symbol behind the Lemonade for Livy movement. What started as one neighborhood lemonade stand to raise money in honor of Livy is expanding into a global campaign. It continues to grow because of Livy’s twin sister Hailey and the special bond the girls share, a mother’s love and a father’s promise made long ago. Click here to read A Father’s Promise.

Since birth, Livy has been plagued by the damaging effects of epilepsy. We have watched her slowly slip away from us for months on end because we lost control of her seizures. She has endured multiple major brain surgeries but the seizures persist. We will no longer sit idly by and watch epilepsy steal the precious time we have with her.

A Global Health Issue

65 million people across the globe have epilepsy. At this moment, parents are at hospitals in neonatal units watching their newborns have seizures. SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) has claimed another life. A single mother is struggling to find a way to get to work because epilepsy has taken her ability to drive. A father is standing at the bedside of his 10 year old daughter praying to God to stop the uncontrolled convulsions. There are millions of stories just like these in every corner of the globe.

Epilepsy is a major health issue that receives less than $2.00 of federal funding per person with epilepsy. There continues to be a stigma and lack of awareness associated with the disorder in our communities. We need to do more! Just imagine the progress we can make if we all work together. We will continue to aggressively work toward a better future for people living with epilepsy. We ask that you participate in Lemonade for Livy and join us in a journey that is shared my millions of families.
