The Go-Giver
In honor of Giving Tuesday, I thought it was important to discuss the topic of giving and how Livy has changed our perspective on this topic entirely. The Livy's Hope tag line is "Don't Give Up. Give Back." We have spoken quite a bit about what that represents. To simplify, it means never give up hope. And if you are going through a hard time, give back to others because it takes the focus off of yourself.

The question is, why do you want to take the focus off of yourself when going through an issue that likely needs a lot of attention? To explain, I would like to share with you a book I read recently that laid it out incredibly well. The title is "The Go-Giver" written by Bob Burg and John David Mann. The concept is based on five laws including:

  1. The Law of Value - your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
  2. The Law of Compensation - your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
  3. The Law of Influence - your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.
  4. The Law of Authenticity - the most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
  5. The Law of Receptivity - the key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

It basically means that the more you give to others, the more successful you will be in accomplishing whatever you are trying to do in life. That could mean overcoming a health issue, making a career change, or changing the world. It all comes down to putting others before yourself and living with a giving mindset not just monetarily but with your time and your heart. I say heart because listening to others and being a good friend is equally important as other forms of giving.

So I challenge you, on this Giving Tuesday, to make a promise to yourselves. Don't let today be the only day you give. Make today the first day of giving every day. Giving to others has certainly changed our lives. I'm pretty sure that if you add giving to your life, it will change yours as well.
