The Livy's Hope newsletter has returned! 2016 was a big transition year for our family. We needed to take a step back and evaluate how much was going on in our lives. There is only so much time in the day and we had to set some priorities. However, now that we are more organized, we will continue on our journey of "Don't Give Up. Give Back." 2017 has so much potential. Will you come along for the ride and get involved?
We started off 2017 by announcing our 12 Months of Giving initiative. Each month, we will have a different theme and/or help an organization that is making an impact in the community. We believe that giving back should be year-round. There will be opportunities for you to help by supporting the same organization in your community, by finding ways to give using the theme, by purchasing an item, or with time and talents. When you participate, we would love to hear about it!
Our belief in “Don’t Give Up. Give Back.” is a part of who we are as a family. We want to create a community of people who also believe that helping others is an important part of life. Hope runs strong in each of us and with a little inspiration, we can work together to make the world better!
Our January theme was parents. We asked that people do something nice for parents who have been through a tough time or are still struggling. As fate may have it, we were contacted by a great-grandmother in Texas. Her granddaughter had recently given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Unfortunately, their experience was much like ours. The baby began having seizures shortly after birth. We know what it is like to feel alone under these circumstances. So we reached out to the mom and dad and offered to help however we can. We were also able to direct them where to find support and answered a number of questions based on our experience. We also sent them a personalized baby blanket to remind them to always have hope.
In February, we are supporting the PTA at Livy's School. Livy goes to Paul B. Stephens, a special needs school 10 minutes from our house. We are incredibly lucky to have a school like this close to home. The people that work there are amazing! It takes a certain type of nurturing personality to teach kids who need a different type of educating. Parents put an incredible amount of trust in them to watch over and care for our very fragile and medically complicated kids. We are grateful for all that the faculty does to enrich the lives of children!
An opportunity has come up where we can help the school and recognize the students. On February 24th, students will participate in the school’s Walk 'n Roll-A-Thon to raise money for the Paul B Stephens PTA which sponsors the prom, family events, room supplies, and more. The PTA also rewards the kids for participating in the event. Typically, the rewards are sponsored by a local company. This year, Livy's Hope, in partnership with the Fran Haasch Law Group, is going to sponsor the event. The Livy's Hope goal is $500 which the Law Offices of Fran M. Haasch has generously agreed to match! Any funds left after the rewards will help the PTA fund other events.
We are excited to present our new Livy's Hope logo! Livy's Hope began back in 2010 as a way for us to tell our story and to help other families going through similar journeys. We have come a long way since then with help from so many of you. Our logo reflects Livy's and our family's journey. The butterfly that has landed on the H represents a peaceful spirit and a metamorphosis. The Y in Livy is always holding onto hope. And our tag line of "Don't Give Up. Give Back." is at the core of how we live our lives.
Livy's Hope has been a strong voice in the epilepsy community. We have also helped many other organizations along the way. But we could not have done it without you. Thank you for walking with us during the good times and the bad. We are grateful for your encouragement and support and hope you continue with us on our journey.
"The true test is not how hard the mountain was to climb. It’s what you do with the strength, wisdom, and courage you gained during the journey."
