We have some incredibly exciting news! Shopko, a $3 billion retailer with more than 370 stores in the Midwest and western US, is partnering with the Epilepsy Foundation for Lemonade for Livy! For the first time, a major retailer will be collecting donations at the register to benefit the epilepsy community. There will also be lemonade stands in participating locations. This is the poster that will be displayed in all of the Shopko locations and at the in-store stands.
A core value at Shopko is to give back to the community. They share the Foundation's and the Livy's Hope goals of educating, creating awareness, and building a better future for people across the country. We are grateful to the entire Shopko team for joining the fight to end epilepsy!
We have always believed that Lemonade for Livy had the potential to bring people together and inspire change. We couldn't be more thrilled that Shopko shares that vision. The partnership will allow the Foundation to reach more families in local neighborhoods and will provide funding for research that will impact people around the world.
Lemonade for Livy weekend, July 29 - 31, is right around the corner. We have 12 states left to turn purple including:
If you live in one of these states, please consider registering a stand or party. If you know someone who lives in one of the states, please contact them and ask them to get involved. Our goal is to have as many stands and parties as possible but the impact is much greater if the entire country is represented. To register your event, please click here to visit the Lemonade for Livy site.
Hailey has also been hard at work encouraging people to get involved. She created a stop motion video to show how to set up a Lemonade for Livy stand in 3 easy steps. It took over 450 pictures to get it right and that doesn't include the hundreds more that she shot and then reshot. It took several days of tedious work to make it all come together and for an 11-year-old, that is not an easy task.
When we asked her why she did it and what kept her going, she said, "I know how important it is to get people involved with Lemonade for Livy and to raise funding for the Epilepsy Foundation. I am always thinking about Livy and ways that I can help her. I really hope people like the video, register to hold a stand, and then share the video with others." Click here to watch the video.
A new chapter for Livy! We have started her on a blenderized diet after years of her only being fed Pediasure through her g-tube. We are starting with mostly baby pureed foods but will build up to real food. She has been on the new regimen for over a month now and is tolerating it well. We did have a little set back with some increased seizure activity we believe was due to low sodium but quickly made an adjustment that got her up to the correct level. We always approach new things like this with hesitation. Livy is very sensitive to change. But this was a risk we were willing to take!

We wanted to say a big “Congratulations" to our very special friends and amazing supporters, the Costa Family. Grace Amelia Costa was born on May 31st. Brandi and Daniel's son Gabe is much like our Livy. They have been through major struggles with epilepsy but have always stayed positive and have a good outlook on life. Gabe goes to the same school as Livy which is where we met them.
We had the opportunity to meet Grace and immediately fell in love with her. She is such a sweetheart! For special needs families, there are always doubts about having more children. Do we have enough time to take care of a baby? Can we handle the stress that comes with special needs as well as raising another child? And perhaps the greatest concern is, will our new baby be healthy? To the Costas, we admire you for your courage. Thank you for inspiring us and others. We can't wait to get to know Grace more as she grows up.
"Alone, we can do great things. Together, we can change the world."
